More apprenticeships than ever in Shropshire
6:00am Saturday 19th October 2013 in News
A LANDLORD in south Shropshire is providing more apprenticeships than ever before and is still recruiting as part of its ambitious skill building programme.
Shropshire Housing Group has taken on four apprentices through its maintenance company, Total Response Limited and social landlord, Meres and Mosses Housing Association.
It is also in the process of finding two more for administrative roles.
The group’s IT team is also benefiting from an apprentice, Casey Jackson, who has been in place for over a year.
Already in place are two young people learning to be plumbing and heating engineers, one is training as a maintenance operative and one is gaining skills as an electrician.
All of the apprentices benefit from training on the job as well as regular time to attend college to complete more formal teaching and examinations.
“This number of apprentices is quite a large commitment for us, not least because we have to ensure that they get the most out of the opportunity, which means putting significant time into their training,”
said Jake Berriman, the Shropshire Housing Group chief executive.
“An organisation like ours, not to mention wider society, will always need what they have to offer, so the effort we put into them now will pay off in years to come.
“This is also a great way of keeping the skills of Shropshire's young people with the county, rather than them feeling forcing them to seek careers elsewhere.”
