THE final hope that something might salvaged from the ruins of the Ludlow Hospital and Health Village Scheme has been officially extinguished this morning.
Shropshire Community NHS Trust meeting at Ludlow Racecourse this morning (Thursday, September 19) have accepted a recommendation to abandon the scheme.
The meeting was told that following the decision of the local Clinical Commissioning Group not to bridge an annual £1.1 million funding shortfall on the project no stone had been left unturned in trying to find a compromise.
However, this had failed and there was no option but the drop the £27 million scheme on the Eco Park.
It had originally been approved in May 2012 and should be nearing completion but fell victim to a fatal delay as a result of the Government’s Health and Social Welfare Act.
This took 13 months to resolve but a subsequent review found that the scheme was not viable.
A investment of £160,000 will now be made in the existing Ludlow Hospital which health chiefs is good for another two to five years.
