Dispute listed for tribunal in Ludlow
7:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
ONLY a last minute out of court settlement can stop Ludlow Council’s dispute with its former Town Clerk being sorted out in court.
The departure of Veronica Calderbank from the job last year has resulted in an industrial tribunal hearing listed for next month in Birmingham.
It leaves the Town Council facing the risk of a crippling six figure pay-out if it loses the case.
Veronica Calderbank left the Council in September last year three months after resigning and claiming that her position had been made untenable.
The Council and its staffing and appeals committee have held many meetings in secret session to discuss the issue that has hung a cloud of the work of the authority for more than a year.
It is understood by the Advertiser that following advice the Town Council had considered the option of trying to settle the issue out of court but this has come to nothing.
Because Veronica Calderbank stepped down from the Town Council it is anticipated that the case will relate to a claim of constructive dismissal which means that the claimant believes their treatment made it impossible to continue in the job.
