Funding turned down for new Ludlow Hospital
THE Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group has turned down a request to bridge a £1.1 million a year shortfall in the planned new Ludlow Hospital and Health Village.
A year ago the scheme on the Eco Park was approved but following a review it was revealed that the scheme did not add up financially.
The refusal by the Board of the Clinical Commissioning Group that met today at Ludlow Racecourse had been expected.
A report for the CCG revealed that the original approval was based upon flawed assumptions about the number of patients that would use the hospital and the availability of doctors and medical staff to run the clinics.
It has also been revealed that £2.6 million has already been spent on the project and this does not include the purchase of the site or compensation that may have to be paid to the private sector developer earmarked for the scheme.
