TENBURY Primary and Nursery Schools are celebrating glowing reports from education watchdog Ofsted.

An inspection report on the primary school from the beginning of the year declared it to be‘good’. This marks a distinct improvement on the last review in 2010 when it was designated as ‘satisfactory.

The report said that teaching and learning had improved over the past two years and pupils that had fallen behind in the past have been helped to make up lost ground.

However, grounds for further improvement were identified, including dealing with inconsistencies in teaching and marking. The report suggested taking more opportunities to use information and communications technology to support children.

An inspection in March at the Nursery School on the same site deemed it ‘outstanding’ in all aspects.

Jill Grant, head teacher at both schools said “We are particularly proud of our report as it is a well known fact that nationally, Ofsted has raised the bar in terms of what makes a good school and this result is a true reflection and recognition of the hard work and dedication from all pupils, staff and governors.”

“Pupils are praised throughout the report for being eager to learn, working hard in class and concentrating well. It states that ‘they listen attentively to their teachers, respond thoughtfully to questions and are keen to succeed.

“The report goes on to say how achievement has improved considerably since the previous inspection and that all groups of pupils throughout the school make good progress.

“A key strength of all lessons is the good management of behaviour, which is based on high expectations, well established routines and positive relationships with pupils.”

The strengths of the school have really been recognised and they have started implementing Ofsted suggestions to become outstanding all round.

This includes reviewing current plans for the increased use of ICT across the curriculum and producing a handbook for outstanding teaching and learning.
