Schools close across south Shropshire as snow causes major disruption

Snow caused disruption this morning. Snow caused disruption this morning.

SCHOOLS in Ludlow remained open but it was a different story in other parts of south Shropshire as winter returned.

Heavy snowfall resulted in the closure of a number of schools in rural areas on Friday, March 22.

It was the schools in the more isolated towns and villages that were hit by a heavy snowfall that saw temperatures plunging to levels more usually associated with early January than late March.

The snow gave an unexpected day off for pupils and students at Brown Clee Primary in Ditton Priors, Church Stretton Secondary, Clee Hill Primary, Clunbury Primary and at Lacon Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer.

Snow that made driving treacherous in some parts of south Shropshire came just a week before the start of British Summer Time.

It was also in sharp contrast with the very mild end to March in 2012 that had seen some people enjoying a barbeque.
