Ludlow pupils to perform in top arts centre in Cardiff

STUDENTS from Ludlow School will be performing in the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, as part of National Theatre Connections, a nationwide celebration of new plays for young people.

Connections is produced by the National Theatre and supported by a number of individuals, trusts and foundations.

Each year new plays are commissioned for and about young people from some of the best contemporary playwrights, for performance by schools and youth theatres all over the UK and Ireland, making Connections one of the world’s largest celebrations of youth theatre.

Ludlow Church of England School is performing Ailie and the Alien by Morna Pearson at their school this week, before taking to the stage in Wales.

Ailie is a human and things have been going wrong for her for a while.

Finn is an alien who has crash landed on earth.

When Finn takes a shine to Ailie things suddenly start going right in her life.

But when Finn must return home everything begins to unravel.

Fifty students are involved in the production which combines action on stage with live animation.

Following the performances at Ludlow School, the production will then be performed at the Wales Millennium Centre on Monday, March 25, alongside other school and youth groups that are taking part in Connections.

Although this event is not a competition, one version of each of the ten new plays being staged will be selected to be performed at the National Theatre in London.

The performances are this evening (Thursday, March 14 and tomorrow (Friday, March 15) at 7pm.
