PEOPLE in Tenbury will get the chance to listen to a crucial meeting about a major housing development on the edge of town.

The Malvern Hills northern area planners will meet at St Michael’s Hall next Wednesday to discuss an application to build nearly 50 homes on land opposite Tenbury High School.

Tony Penn and Phil Grove who represent Tenbury on Malvern Hills District Council have pressed for the meeting that is normally held in Malvern to be moved to the town.

“It is very important that local people get the chance to hear the debate about development that is important to the area where they live,” said Coun Penn, who holds the planning portfolio on the council Coun Penn believes the meeting will prove a crucial test case with respect to the South Worcester Development Plan that was recently agreed by MHDC.

According to the plan the area is designated for 30 new homes instead of the 45 that are proposed.

According to Coun Penn the development plan should make it more difficult for a developer to successfully appeal should the northern area committee refuse the application.

“This is why having a development plan in place is so important,”

said Tony Penn.

The meeting is at St Michael’s Hall at 7pm.
