JUSTIN Haycock took the man-of-the-match honours in Bishops Castle’s 15-10 home win over Barton-under- Needwood in Midlands Four West (North).

Skipper Pete Bevan was thrilled with his troops and said Haycock shone on the wing and then in the centre.

Bevan crashed over for his fifth try of the season, while Dave Cooper also touched down in Castle’s triumph.

The reliable Elliot Brooks slotted an early penalty and kicked a conversion for Castle, who travel to Five Ways Old Edwardians this Saturday.

“The scoreline against Barton looks closer than it actually was,” said Bevan.

“We were 15-3 up and then they scored two late tries.”

Clee Hill suffered a 22-0 home defeat against leaders Market Drayton, also in Midlands Four West (North).

Captain John Britton said Cleobury Mor timer’s ‘over-confidence’ was their downfall in the 36-6 defeat at Eccleshall in Midlands Three West (North).

Ed Lewis kicked two penalties for bottom-of-thetable Cleobury, who face the long trip to Newcastle in Staffordshire this Saturday.

“We were probably a bit over-confident,” said Britton.

He added: “Eccleshall played a game which was suited to their pitch, which was a mud-bath.

“Our rucking was a lot better but they were better than us on turn-over ball.”
