LIFE can be tough at the top of the tree especially if you're a woodpecker without many branches to tap in to.
This greater spotted woodpecker was spotted announcing its presence to a mate with a loud call in the churchyard at St Peter's Church in Diddlebury.
Nicola Butcher snapped towards the sky to get this shot of the striking black and white bird, with a red patch on the back of its head and on the front side of its lower body, that was more easily heard than seen.
