ADAM Warren grabbed five goals as Clee Hill United demolished Albrighton to march on to the third round of the Shropshire FA Shropshire Challenge Cup.

Jack Seymour and Steve Preece also got a brace apiece, while the other goals came from Scott Jordan and Liam Whitbread.

“We used to have scorelines like that in the 1990s when we were winning leagues, but it hasn’t happened for at least 10 years,” said Clee Hill manager Wayne Whitbread.

“We did the job we had to do.

“To be fair to Albrighton, they never gave up and battled throughout the game, but we killed the game off after 10 minutes when we were 3-0 up.

“It is a long time since we were able to slow the pace down and our passing at times was brilliant.

“If we went hell for leather, who knows what the score would have been.”

Clee Hill will be back in league action on Saturday when they travel to top-ofthe- table Ketley Town in Mercian League Division One.

“That will be a very tough game and will be at the other end of the spectrum as they are a quality side,” said Whitbread.

“We will have to work our socks off to get anything out of the game, but if we do our jobs properly, then we have a chance.”

Bishop’s Castle also had their shooting boots on Saturday as they hammered Morda United Reserves 9-3 in the same competition.

Gaz Bromley was the star man as he helped himself to five goals, while Luke Hicks (two) and a goal apiece from George Mellor and Alex Jones saw Andy Green’s side sail through to the next round.

“I couldn’t go to the game as I was moving house, but the lads were texting me the goals,” said Green.

“We went 1-0 down, but to be fair to the team, we let Morda have it.

“We have got Meole Brace away on Saturday and we hope to get three points.

“I will be back for the game and should be playing.”

Gavin Beddoes’ goal was a mere consolation for Bucknell as they were thrashed 14-1 at Wellington AFC in the second round, while Newcastle also bowed out after losing 2-1 at home to Madeley Sports.

Newcastle went into the game without four regulars and Richard Jones and John Bateson both carrying knocks.

But they went ahead when 17-year-old Phil Williams scored a fine goal from the edge of the box - his first goal in senior football.

Madeley levelled the tie when Ben Harvey deflected a goal into his own net and Newcastle’s woes deepened when Bateson and Jones both had to come off. Sean Baldwin then kept Newcastle in the game with a string of fine saves, but Madeley grabbed the winner 15 minutes from time.
