Tenbury United 3 Ettingshall Park Farm 2

COLIN Powell’s men bounced back in style from their hammering against Hereford Lads Club with a much-needed win against Ettingshall Park Farm.

United lost 7-0 against their Hereford opponents in their previous game, but this result will give them confidence heading into their Worcestershire FA Junior Cup second-round game against Midland Combination Division One side Archdale 73 on Saturday.

“We got the win, which we deserved,” said Powell.

“We had a similar side that played against Lads Club, but changed it around slightly, which worked.

“We have got Archdale on Saturday in the Worcester Junior Cup and they are always either quarter-final or semi-finalists, so it will be a tough game, but one which we are looking forward to.”

He added: “We haven’t got much chance in the league, so hopefully we can do something in the cups.

“We probably would have liked to have played it away as our ground’s not brilliant at the moment, but we are looking forward to it.”

Keiran Fish opened the scoring for Tenbury in last Saturday’s West Midlands League Division Two success.

He shot home from a corner and then had goalkeeper Sean Baldwin to thank for keeping out an Ettingshall penalty.

Substitute Dave Rigby extended Tenbury’s lead when he ran 35 yards before rounding the goalkeeper and putting the ball into an empty net.

Ettingshall reduced the arrears but Tenbury restored their two-goal cushion through a George Pearson free-kick.

There was a nervous finish for United when the away side bagged their second goal, but Powell’s team held on for a vital win.
