Leintwardine Colts 1 Tenbury Town 5

TENBURY Town spokesman Carl Lambert is already dreaming of cup glory as his team enter the quarter-final stages of the Worcestershire FA Minor Cup on Saturday.

Town travel to Worcestershire side Inkberrow and go into the game on the back of a resounding win against local rivals Leintwardine Colts in Herefordshire League Division Three.

“We got to the quarter-final stage of the HFA Junior Cup this season, but lost to Kingstone, so it would be nice to get to a final,” said Lambert.

“We’ve also got Leintwardine in the quarter-finals of the Leintwardine Cup in December, so we have got some big games coming up.

“We have had a lot of cup games, something like five or six, and didn’t have our first league game until the first week in October.

“But we have played four league games now and won them all.

“We are playing good football and could have scored even more on Saturday.

“Leintwardine beat Tenbury Colts 7-0 in their previous game, so it goes to show that it is quite a tough league.”

Tenbury took the lead after five minutes when Chris Patton played a lovely ball to Alex Lombardi to whip in a cross for Alex Bright to convert from close range.

Dar ren Worthington’s side then extended their lead with a 25-yard free-kick from Ash Botwood and, by the 16-minute mark, it was 3-0 when Mark Boucker scored his 12th goal of the season.

Tenbury ran away with the game in the second half with Ian Patterson and Ian George both getting on the scoresheet.

Leintwardine’s reply came through a Johnny Tranter effort.

“Alex Bright has been playing very well at the moment, Ash Botwood is pulling the strings in midfield and Roger Dovey has been captaining the side well,” added Town spokesman Lambert.

“We signed Alex from Tenbury United, where he was a goalkeeper.

“He plays up front for us and I think he may have been wasted as a goalkeeper there.

“If we had scored more goals, then we could be level with Bromyard on goal difference or even have gone ahead of them.

“We just want to continue challenging them at the top of the league.”
