CAMERA CLUB – Longmynd Camera Club members will be preparing for the second club competition of the season next Wednesday, featuring the subject Streets and Walkways, which will be judged by Roger Cable. At the previous meeting members and visitors were treated to an excellent slide presentation by Frank Cartwright who transported his audience to the far north to see the Northern Lights, to Alaska and also to Yellowstone Park and Monument Valley in the USA. A selection of his framed pictures were on display. A vote of thanks was given by David Kennedy.

DRAMA – Under the heading Tonight at 7.30 our local drama group Dorrington Players will be staging three plays at the Silvester Horne Institute from November 22-24 at 7.30pm. The trio of plays include Family Album, Knightsbridge and Still Life. Tickets cost £7 and are being sold through Burway Books and John Thomas Florists or £8 at the door.

MUSIC NIGHTS – The Roving Crows were at the Silvester Horne Institute last Friday night raising the roof with a toetapping medley of live music, rounding off the series of Friday nights at the Horne until February.

Richie Jones will be playing at the 50s, 60s and 70s evening at the District Social Club on Sunday, and Double Focus on November 25, while Sound Excuse will be providing live music at the King’s Arms on November 23 from 9pm and on November 30 there will be a chance to hear Blues Boy Dan, a young talented local artist.

COFFEE AND LUNCH – On Wednesday, there will be a coffee and lunch event at the parish centre combined with a tabletop sale in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Adults and children welcome at the event.

CHOIR – The Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir will be in concert at Church Stretton School on November 24 at 7.30pm arranged by the British Legion for the Poppy Appeal. Tickets cost £6 and are being sold through Burway Books and John Thomas Florists.

TREE OF LIGHT – Call in at McCartneys if you would like to sponsor a light on the Christmas tree in memory of a loved one or special event. The money raised will go to Hope House Hospice, the Severn Hospice and the County Air Ambulance. The tree of light will be blessed at the Carols in the Square on Christmas Eve.

COMMUNITY CINEMA – The Woman in Black is the film to be shown at Acton Scott village hall on Tuesday. The Artist will be screened at All Stretton village hall on November 30, and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen at Church Stretton School on December 3. All films start at 7.30pm.

SCHOOL NEWS – At St Lawrence’s Primary School pupils will be going blue at a non-uniform day to raise funds for world diabetes day, the film club will be showing The Borrrowers and Class 2 will be out and about in Church Stretton as part of their geography theme on the local area, and also visiting the library on another occasion. There is a thank you to all who have responded to the Shoe Box Appeal. At Church Stretton School exams are in the air.

NEW BROWNIE GROUP – A new Brownie group is being set up at Hope Bowdler, meeting in the village hall on Tuesday evenings for the 7-10s and open from 5-6pm. Any adults wishing to go along as a volunteer are welcome.

BONFIRE NIGHT – Acton Scott bonfire night was held on November 5, providing a very enjoyable evening for all. The proceeds of the event will go to the upkeep of the village hall.

SENIOR CITIZENS – Meeting on November 23 at 2.30pm in the URC Hall with speaker John Corfield talking about Scales.

CHRISTMAS FAIR – All day in the Square on November 24, with festive stalls, barrel organ, jazz band, together with Santa’s grotto, pudding tasting at Mayfair, Christingle service at 4pm in the church, switch on of the Christmas lights with carols in the Square.

EXHIBITION – of art at All Stretton village hall on November 25 with refreshment donations to Hope House Hospice.
