ANDREW Richards was Ludlow’s hero on Sunday as his last-minute goal beat East Midlands Division One side Berkswell and Ballsall 2-1 in the England Vase competition.
Berkswell and Ballsall went ahead from a well-taken short corner, but Ludlow got themselves on level terms when Matt Blount put away a penalty that James Pratt won. It was then left to captain Richards to win the tie at the death, much to Ludlow’s joy.
The previous day, Ludlow beat title challengers Pershore 7-5 in Ener-G League Division Two with goals coming from Richards (two), Pratt (two), Tom Moseley, Vijay Chumber, Matt Blount.
Two goals from Jake Watts and one from Tim Machin were enough to see Ludlow 2nd cruise to a 3-1 win against Kidderminster.
Abi Thomas scored two goals as topof- the-table Tenbury Ladies romped to a 6-2 win against Worcester Ladies 2nds in Worcestershire League Division One.
Becky Gwilliam, Tina Buckley, Amy Bywater and Rachel Croxton-Broome were also on the scoresheet in the emphatic win.
Ludlow Ladies were only able to field 10 players as they lost 3-0 to Badsey in the same league meaning that they are still winless.
Ludlow Under-16s Girls got hammered 13-0 against Beeston in the England Hockey Under-16s Girls Championship.
