JUMBLE SALE: A jumble sale in Bishop's Castle Public Hall on Saturday, March 8, made a profit of £447.50. The money will go to the Ysgol Cedewain School in Newtown for children with learning difficulties. Organiser, Mo Parry, says a big thank-you to those who gave jumble, cakes and prizes as well as everyone who helped on the day.
BOX OF DELIGHTS FOR SOLDIERS: Thirty boxes packed with goodies have been dispatched to soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Mo Parry, who lives at Snead, near Bishop's Castle, is still collecting treats for men and women soldiers and would welcome donations for the next consignment.
Mrs Parry explains: "Each box weighs two kilos and contains about £10 worth of treats, to help make home seem a little bit nearer for our men and women overseas. I am very grateful for the wonderful response shown by local people and I intend to carry on. At the moment we are raising money to buy mini fridges, which are available on the army camps at a cost of £60. These can be kept in soldiers' tents to keep drinks and chocolate cool." Call Mo Parry on 01588 630096 for more information or to make a donation.

LINKS WITH TWIN TOWN: The partnership between Bishop's Castle and its twin town of St Marcel in Normandy continues to thrive. On March 12, a group of 19 Community College students and their teachers left for a week's stay in the French town. Joining the party were six other people from Bishop's Castle who stayed with families in the area. Local artist Sue Percy took over a number of paintings by fellow artists, ready for an exhibition in St Marcel later in the year, while Will Croom-Johnson explored the possibility of links between Bishop's Castle Tennis Club and the club in France.
Bishop's Castle Primary School teacher Rosemary Rimmer has established a link with the Jules Ferry Primary School in St Marcel and some of her pupils made Easter cards for their new French friends. Call 01588 680445 or 01588 638749 to find out more about the Twinning Association.

STARS SHINE ON PALM SUNDAY: On March 16, children from the Onny Camlad Sunday Stars gathered at Wentnor to enact the Palm Sunday Bible story. Over 40 adults were present to see 20 children take part in a dramatic portrayal of the events that marked Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Mounting an obliging Shetland pony, Jesus (Ben Cooke) led the palm-waving procession down Wentnor's High Street to the Temple courtyard (churchyard) where the money-changers had gathered with their live sheep and pigeons. A furious Jesus drove them out and the procession moved into Wentnor Church to enact the later events of Holy Week up to Good Friday, including the Last Supper.
