VIOLINIST Alina Ibragimova makes her debut with the Academy of Ancient Music, and gives her first performances directing a period-instrument ensemble this February.
The programme charts ground-breaking innovations in the role of the violin, from Biber’s solo Passacaglia to the summit of the baroque concerto in the hands of JS Bach and Vivaldi. Ibragimova counts Yehudi Menuhin among her musical mentors and was recently awarded the RPS Young Artist Award for 2010.
The concert on March 3 will be recorded for broadcast on 4 March on BBC Radio 3 and is part of Music Nation, a Countdown Event for the London 2012 Festival, and the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.
The festival is a 12-week UKwide cultural celebration that brings leading artists from all over the world together to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through dance, music, theatre, visual art, film and digital innovation.
