On Sunday 25 February Simon Deeley’s Blue Haze Quartet will be bringing their latest collection of original compositions From The Blue Hills in a rare Sunday afternoon of jazz at Ludlow Assembly Rooms.

The event will include a vibrant and evocative collection of 11 original compositions by jazz pianist Simon Deeley in styles ranging from the Latin-jazz of On a Wing and a Dance through to the ‘in-the-groove-jazz’ of Soul of the West to gentle and reflective ballads such as Ballad of the Blue Waters.

The Blue Haze Quartet comprises of Simon Deeley (Piano), Martha Skilton (Tenor, Alto & Soprano Saxophone), Ian Cooper (Bass) and Charlie Russell (Drums & Congas)

In 2016 this quartet recorded the album Crossing Borders, and toured it, going to venues in the Border and Mid Wales area. The band began rehearsing in the Spring of this year, and then in August they recorded the album From The Blue Hills.

The choice of the name Blue Haze Quartet came from Simon's observation of the hazy-blue colour of the distant hills of his new border home, a place, which he feels has had a strong, positive effect on his creative out-put.

Simon Deeley's Blue Haze Quartet will be at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on Sunday 25 February at 3pm.
