This year’s Visual Arts Exhibition presented by Glasbury Arts includes an unusual feature in addition to the exciting range of local talent that has always been a hallmark of the event.

In the summer of 2017 Glasbury Arts co-curated a Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting Exhibition held at Cyfarthfa Castle, in which 12 significant artists, many with international reputations, participated and Glasbury Arts is delighted to be bringing some of the highlights to this year’s annual exhibition.

The featured painters will include: Martyn Jones, abstract; Charles Burton, figurative; Alan Salisbury, surrealist; Gustavius Payne, figurative; Sally Mathews, life size animal sculptures; Joanne Smith, still life; Veronica Gibson, landscapes (oils); Kate Freeman, abstract and John Darlison, landscapes (water colours).

And, following the extensive press coverage of last year’s life drawings, Glasbury Arts has invited Katherine Sheers to exhibit some of her exquisitely beautiful examples of this very important art form.

Joining Katherine as guest artists are Chris Armstrong, wood turning and design; Clive Sanderson, blacksmith/sculptures; Sue Williams, landscape painter; Sarah Putt, portraits and Clarissa Price exhibiting at the River Cafe.

In addition, Val Meredith, as well as exhibiting some of her sketches, will be inviting visitors to sketch with her between 12noon and 1pm at the exhibition each day.

Gwernyfed High School will be exhibiting highlights of GCSE and A-Level work, including an unusual installation by A-Level student Alice Gardiner, and Clarissa Price will be exhibiting at the River Café,

Local artists with work on show in this year’s exhibition are Jenni Hall, figurative painter; Dawn Cripps, embroidery/jewellery; Caitriona Cartwright, stone cutter and carver; Anna Myrddin Evans, landscape painter; Kayleigh Hughes, abstract/landscape; Juliet Parker Smith, landscape.

The private view takes place on Friday, February 16 from 7-9pm and the exhibition will then be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, February 17 and 18 from 11am to 4.30pm, and on Monday and Tuesday, February 19 and 20 from 10am to 4pm.
