THIS year's map exhibition, The Marches: Maps, Prints and Bindings, at Aardvark Books in Brampton Bryan which opens on Saturday at 11am, featureS the 1611 Sudbury and Humble map of Herefordshire by John Speed, as well as a collection of rare and interesting antique books on Herefordshire.

This year's exhibition is the fifth in a series of comprehensive cartographic reviews, bringing together more than 100 items relating to the Marches counties – Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire – and Wales. All of the maps and books are for sale.

Maps on display include numerous examples of maps by John Speed, including maps of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Radnorshire, Montgomeryshire and Breconshire, as well as maps of Herefordshire by major mapmakers who surveyed the area including a Janssen (1651), a rare Van Langeren (1630s), a Van den Keere, and a beautiful example of The Continuation of the Road from London to Aberistwyth by Ogilby, 1675, showing the section from Bromyard to Aberystwyth.

The book section of the exhibition consists of a number of books from the renowned library of Titley Court, including some annotated by a member of the Greenley family and including a beautiful example of 'The Heraldry of Herefordshire' with stunning full colour armorials of the coats of arms of all the leading families of the county.

For the first time Aardvark will be showing an original example of a map by Christopher Saxton dating from 1579. This is the first map of Shropshire, and it is a rare treat to be able to view an original copy.
