A NEW music night, Down the River, opens at the Charlton Arms tomorrow night.

The beautiful river terrace overlooking the river Teme, creates a beautiful spot to enjoy an evening with some of the finest jazz, root, and blues artists in the country.

Opening the series tomorrow is the UK's leading exponent of be-bop saxophone, Alan Barnes, who has built a reputation over the past 30 years playing with many top American jazz musicians and being the spearhead of British modern jazz.

Next month, on Friday, June 26, The Remi Harris Trio appear at Down the River. In recent weeks Remi has shot to the top of the iTunes Jazz chart following his appearance on Jamie Cullum's BBC Radio 2 broadcast from Cheltenham Jazz festival.

Remi's immense technical skill combined with a natural musical talent has made him one of the country leading exponents of the gypsy jazz style made famous by Django Reinhardt.

Finally to finish the summer season, Dan Walsh, arguably the best banjo player in the UK will bring his original songs and composition to the Charlton Arms. Touted as one of the finest banjo players in the UK as well as being a superb singer, songwriter and guitarist, Dan Walsh is described as 'the real deal' (Uncut). He now has three critically acclaimed solo albums with his new album Incidents and Accidents receiving excellent reviews.
