WE all dream of sun-drenched days lasting all summer long, but the reality is that the summer holidays can sometimes prove challenging and rain does occasionally stop play.

Beautiful Teme Valley garden opening to visitors

Orleton House, Stanford Bridge.

2:55pm Thursday 28th May 2009

ONE of the most beautiful gardens in Worcestershire in the heart of the Teme Valley is to open to visitors under the National Gardens scheme. The setting for the garden is perfect - magnificent copper beech and oak trees, a fast flowing stream, a secret treehouse, a croquet lawn and impressive Jacobean style buildings. The garden at Orleton House, Stanford Bridge has been developed over the last 20 years by Jenny and John Hughes with huge borders alive with colour and perfume. Jenny shows her artistic flair with her combinations of foliage and height. Large leaves of rogersias and hostas sit well with irises, delphiniums, lupins and alliums. An abundance of unusual plants such as Cirsium, Cerinthe and Morina underplant small fruit and ornamental trees with roses distributed throughout the borders giving interest all year round for keen and casual gardeners alike. The result is a spectacular display which was featured last year in the English Garden magazine. Jenny is also a potter and she will be demonstrating her skills during the afternoon. The garden will be open on May 30 and 31, from 11am to 5pm with licensed light lunches and teas available. Entry fee for adults is £4 and free for children. Money raised will go to the NGS charities (mainly cancer care) to the Air Ambulance and local charities.
