McCARTNEYS Portcullis saleroom held their monthly antique and collectables sale on October 15. The saleroom was crowded with the new earlier start time really proving a huge success. It was a fairly large sale for the time of year with 625 lots being offered with a huge variety of items available for the eager bidders.

Interesting collectable lots proved a success with a leather black jack mug realising £105, a tortoiseshell snuff, card case, treen barrels, ivory fan and shell spoon achieving £245.

A single owner collection of James Bond related autographs consigned by Pudleston Church, as previously reported in County Times, with a proceeds going to the church, generated interest on the night with a 100% sale rate and realising £325 for the church.

Silver sold well with four Victorian rat tail ladles realising £160, a table snuff £80, serving spoons £60, card case £70 and a Charles Horner hat pin £110.

There was a strong military section from a single owner consignment which generated much pre sale interest with a collection of eight bayonets realising £330, a cutlass £160 and some daggers £145.

As has become expected from the Portcullis, furniture sold well with a pretty serpentine walnut chest, even though reproduction going under the hammer for £290, a sofa table £170 and a pair of serpentine walnut bedside cabinets £200. The superstar lot of the sale was a very good inlaid continental chest which realised £1800, eventually selling to the internet after much competition in the room
