Pledge on anti-social activity

A pledge to step up police activity to combat anti-social behaviour has come from West Mercia Police.

From next year, a further 118 uniformed community support officers are to be employed, bringing the force total to 201.

They will be given "appropriate powers for deployment within policing teams".

A report to the Police Authority from Chief Constable Paul West also outlines plans to work with local authorities and other partners to minimise the risk of anti- social behaviour and disorder resulting from excessive alcohol.

They will also target repeat anti-social behaviour offenders, making use of a wide range of responses, including anti-social behaviour orders, acceptable behaviour contracts, fixed penalty notices and other new powers.

Police will also work to reduce road casualties by 40 per cent by 2010 by targeting rural roads which have proven records of fatal or serious collisions, including night surveillance.

There will also be enforcement and education campaigns against drink-drive offences, mobile phone offences and speeding.
