Father Christmas: When Father Christmas turned up at Clun Parents and Toddlers Christmas Party the children were a bit overawed at first as they waited for their presents.

But they soon had smiles on their faces after a friendly word from jolly Santa. There were 25 children at the party. The youngest member of the group is just 10 weeks old.

They had great fun decorating gingerbread men, playing pass the parcel and singing before enjoying a delicious party lunch. It was a great end to the term.

Head Goes with a Flourish: Suzanne Foster, headteacher at St George's Primary School, has left to become head of a large primary school in Stoke on Trent.

In her three years at St George's Mrs Foster directed the children in a number of musical productions and her finale was St George's Music Hall at the Memorial Hall, last Tuesday and Wednesday. During her time as head the school has earned the Green Flag as an Eco School, opened the Cosy Caf for the community and was described in the last Ofsted inspection as 'a very good school'.

Carol Service: Hopton Castle Carol Service is on Thursday, December 22, at 7pm, and is followed by mulled wine and mince pies.

Crib Service: The Christmas story can seem full of magic to children and there will be a special service to explain it to them at St George's Church, Clun, on Christmas Eve at 3pm. The crib service is especially for families and young people.

It includes a blessing of the crib and the Christmas story is retold.

St George's Christmas Eve Midnight Mass begins at 11.30pm.

MUSIC NIGHT: The New Scorpion Band is due to perform at Chapel Lawn Village Hall, on Thursday, December 22, at 7.30pm. Tickets: £5 (adults) and £3 (children). Details:01547 530504

Carols in the Pub: Newcastle's carol singing is planned for Friday, December 23, in the Crown Inn, at 8pm.
