Campaign launched to cut the drink problem

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to promote safe drinking over the festive period.

The Drink Safe campaign has been developed by Shropshire County Council's drug and alcohol action team and gives safety tips for drinkers.

Sarah Dodds, from the council, said: "It is important for everyone to have a good time but drinking too much is never a good idea. Accidents, street violence and illness are all commonly caused by alcohol but can be easily avoided if people know their limit and stick to it."

Government guidelines suggest that women and men drink no more than three and four units a day respectively.

The campaign also makes other safety tips to ensure safe drinking over Christmas and New Year:

Let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to get home.

Avoid going out for the evening alone.

Be aware of the number of units you are consuming and stop when you have had enough.

Never leave your drink unattended.

Never drink and drive or become a passenger of a drink-driver.

Drink slowly and have water or soft drinks in between alcoholic drinks.
