We need to fight with a united front

FOLLOWING a meeting of the South Shropshire District Council on Thursday, November 24, Philip Dunne MP approached me and suggested that the Lib-Dem councillors work with him to fight the threatened closure of the Community Hospital, as he wished it to be non-political.

We all willingly agreed and he promised to forward details of a petition and his plans for our approval the next day. Nothing has been forthcoming!

However, I observed him with local photographers the very next day outside the hospital and he has appeared on subsequent photos - no Lib-Dems!

Also photos of the petition in the market - no Lib-Dems! My name has been mentioned in passing, presumably to give him credibility.

I have represented the good people of Ludlow on town, district and county councils since 1976 and I believe that I have a record of integrity with the public in what I am trying to achieve for the town.

I have willingly accepted a request to serve on a steering committee to fight these iniquitous proposals and hope that the battle will be an successful as mine to get the Maternity Unit re-opened some years ago.

If we are going to win this battle we need to campaign with a united front, without any one person monopolising that effort for personal gain.
