Couple follow Welsh win with Ludlow's top prize

COLIN and Wendy Phillips of the Batch, Sarnsfield, followed up their prestigious championship beast win at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair last week by taking the steer accolade at the Christmas fatstock show and sale at Ludlow Market on Monday. Their steer made 200p per kilo and was bought by a Cheshire buyer..

The reserve champion was exhibited by J A and D Madeley of Little Whitfield, Glewstone, Ross-on-Wye. Their heifer fetched 160p per kilo. The Madeleys also had the best pair of heifers.

The reserve pair of heifers belonged to L J Williams of the Woodlands. Richard Bowen of Ford Abbey Farms, Docklow, exhibited the best red/white Hereford.

In the sheep section, the winner of the best pair of lambs was R Palmer of Creamer. They fetched 154p per kilo.
