Ludlow Town 2 Wellington 4
LADY Luck deserted Ludlow Town when they faced Wellington at the Coors Stadium on Saturday, going down in their West Midlands League Premier Division match by 4-1.
"They had just four chances and scored four goals," Steve McCormick said afterwards. "What luck was going, certainly didn't come our way."
Two goals down mid-way through the first half, Ludlow hit back to score with a rocket drive from striker Ollie Kesterton. But goals either side of half-time eventually put the match out of the home side's reach.
In the past week the Town management has taken steps to strengthen the first team squad and with greater competition for places now, an improvement in fortunes is expected.
Wellington's opener on Saturday followed a long clearance out of the away team's defence, only for the ball to bounce over the Ludlow centre half's head and into the path of an opposition striker who put the ball away from about six yards. Shortly after, a good cross from the wing was slotted home from the near post.
Ludlow's opener was worth waiting for. Follow-ing a neat passing move from defence the ball fell to Kesterton who hit a rising drive from outside the box into the top corner of the net.
A minute either side of the break saw Wellington add two further goals, the first from a defensive error, and the second from a cross from the wing which after being blocked on the line was fired back into the net.
Ludlow's second goal came with just 15 minutes to go, a volley at the far post from just outside the box from Ben Booth.
This Saturday, Ludlow will be hoping for three points when they visit Pelsall Villa in Walsall.
