GIRLS from units across Shropshire including, Ludlow, Pontesbury, Wellington and Cheswardine took part in a huge camp at Beaudesert Park as part of an extra-special under-canvas adventure to mark 100 years of Brownies.

The Brownies, all aged seven to 10, joined more than 270 other girls from August 1-5, to celebrate The Big Brownie Birthday with Cosmic – a massive girl-only camp packed full of adventurous activities, birthday fun and the chance to meet new friends.

The chance to spend four consecutive nights under canvas at a large-scale event was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and - for many girls- the first time they had stayed away from home.

The girls enjoyed a range of exciting, adrenaline-fuelled activities, including climbing, low ropes, spider mountain and go karting.

The activities were drawn from the Brownie Adventure programme, which builds girls' confidence and self-esteem, encourages them to become active citizens and learn about the wider world and gives them a space to have fun and be themselves with other girls.

2014 has seen Girlguiding members from all over the UK take part in sleepovers, camps and holidays in unexpected places to celebrate the 100th birthday of Brownies.

Emmie Morgan from Wellington Brownies said" I loved being away with so many Brownies and the best bit was the low ropes as I had never done that before".

Clare Shinton, County Commissoner for Girlguiding Shropshire added: 'It was a really exciting adventure for the girls, they were able to try many new activities and make friends"
