VINTAGE lorries are coming to Church Stretton.

They will come to the hillside town as part of celebrations of 20 years of showing at Onslow Park in Shrewsbury.

The run from Much Wenlock to Church Stretton has been organised by the commercial vehicle section of the Salop Stream Engine Society.

A convoy of 20 vehicles is expected to arrive in Church Stretton in the early afternoon on Saturday August 23.

“We have 20 vehicles attending the event, and they will travel from Much Wenlock to Church Stretton, leaving at midday,” said Neil Boughey of the Society.

“The gathering of commercial vehicles and the opportunity to see them travel on modern roads will be a superb spectacle, and a ‘warm-up’ for the main rally event; when we will have around 135 commercial vehicles attending.

“This year is the 100th anniversary of the famous Wolverhampton-based vehicle manufacturer Guy Motors – who produced lorries and also cars, buses and trolleybuses.

"We will have some interesting vehicles taking part in the Road Run event, including everything from a 1946 Leyland Beaver; 1947 Bedford M.L.D, and 1958 Dodge , to a 1961 ERF KV; 1962 AEC MK 5,1967 Scania Varis,1970 Leyland Super Comet, and a 1974 Dodge.

“There will even be a 1965 Leyland Double Decker Bus taking part. These vehicle and many more will also be on display at the rally and be parading in the main arena as part of a cavalcade of commercial vehicles.”

The event at Onslow Park is over the bank holiday weekend Sunday August 24 and Monday August 25
