Charging point for electric vehicles switched on in Church Stretton

The charging point is located in the Co-Op supermarket car park in the centre of Church Stretton.

Both Conservative MP Philip Dunne and the Green Party have welcomed the move.

"The Green party is delighted that motorists now have access to an electric vehicle charging point in the Strettons,” said Janet Phillips, of the south Shropshire Greens.

“This will encourage more people to switch from climate damaging petrol and diesel to electricity and it boosts the ecological and environmental reputation of the Strettons as a place to visit in ways that reduce our total environmental "footprint".

"The Green Party congratulates Stretton Climate Care for its sustained hard work and funding of this project. We are very lucky to have such an active group in our community."

Ludlow MP Philip Dunne also welcomed the move.

“I am really pleased that Shropshire’s first 24/7 publicly available charging point is being commissioned in Church Stretton,” he said.

“As more people choose to drive electric or hybrid cars, encouraging charging points throughout the county will become increasingly important.

“I hope that other communities in south Shropshire will soon follow Church Stretton’s example and make more electric car charging points available across the county.”
