SHOPPERS in Ludlow have had an insight into what the town might have looked like 100 years ago.
One of the ways in which the town commemorated the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War was to invite shop owners to take on the look of a century ago.
The idea came from Jean Parker and Margaret Edwards, who run Poyners, in Broad Street.
In some ways Poyners had to make less effort than many others as the business prides itself on taking on the traditions of the past even to the point of not having a telephone.
Jean and Margaret are keen on their history and once masterminded a display of christening gowns through the ages to mark the birthday last year of Prince George.
There remain a number of independent businesses in Ludlow that have stood the test of time and can date their beginnings back more than 100 years.
