EARLIER in the term students from The Community College Bishop's Castle took part in the UKMT Junior and Intermediate Mathematical Challenges. The UKMT Individual maths challenges are lively, intriguing multiple choice question papers, which are designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils. The levels cover the secondary school range 11-18 and together they attract over 600,000 entries from over 4,000 schools and colleges.

The Junior Maths Challenge is aimed at years seven and eight and CCBC mathematics has the following successes:

Year eight: silver certificate and best in school and year: Megan Butler; silver certificate: Charlie Kinsey; bronze certificate: William Jones; bronze certificate: Ben Phillips; bronze certificate: Owen Lloyd; bronze certificate: Ryan Hamar.

Year seven: silver certificate and best in year: Olivia Lempert; bronze certificate: Bethany Price; bronze certificate: Sophie Griffiths; bronze certificate: Josie Farrington; bronze certificate: Tim Edwards; bronze certificate: Sam Beavan.

The Intermediate Maths Challenge is aimed at years nine and 10 and CCBC has the following successes: year 10: gold certificate and best in school: Sally Jones; bronze certificate: Aled Lees; bronze certificate: Ellie Bytheway; bronze certificate: Sam Archer.

We are very proud of all our award winners but we wish to highlight the achievement of Sally Jones who was awarded a gold certificate.
